Geographical Location
Sânpaul municipality is located in the Mureș Valley, covering a total area of 5,535.15 ha. The center of the municipality is Sânpaul, situated on the left bank of the Mureș River, west of Târgu Mureș. The DN15(E60) international road passes through the town, providing fast connectivity to the county center. The second-largest village is Valea Izvoarelor, located south of the DN15(E60), first mentioned in 1349 under the name “Beseneu.”
Chirileu is situated on the left bank of the Mureș River, while Dileu Nou and Sânmărghita, the other two villages, are located to the north of the Mureș. Due to its geographical location, the municipality experiences a temperate climate, influenced by the currents typical of the Mureș Valley. The elevation of the municipality ranges from 280 to 490 meters above sea level.
Transport Infrastructure
The DN15(E60) international road passes through the municipality, as does the Deda-Târgu Mureș-Sărmășel railway line. The Mureș International Airport is located just 3 km away, ensuring connectivity to other parts of the country. Local roads provide internal connectivity, with Chirileu accessible via the DC123 road, while the DC73 road is the main connecting route linking Valea Izvoarelor to the international road and the municipality center. Dileu Nou and Sânmărghita can be reached via the DC121 road.
